The Christian Empire
In 303 Christians were being persecuted. Ten years later the emperor Constantine was one of them.
Constantine paid for churches, called the bishops to Nicaea to agree on a creed, and built a Christian capital at Constantinople. In Africa, the king of Aksum converted too.
By 380 Christianity was the empire's official religion. The Church would outlive the western empire and shape Europe for the next thousand years.
