Egypt's Empire

The shock of Hyksos rule changed Egypt. The New Kingdom pharaohs built a professional army of chariots and pushed their borders far beyond the Nile.

Under Thutmose III Egypt ruled from Nubia to Syria. Gold from Nubia paid for the temples of Karnak and Luxor and for tombs like Tutankhamun's.

Akhenaten's one-god revolution failed, Ramesses II fought the Hittites to a draw, and Ramesses III held off the Sea Peoples. After that the empire slowly drained away.
